APEC Calls for 2025 Healthy Women, Healthy Economies Research Prize Entries


Overview

Applications are now open for the 2025 APEC Healthy Women, Healthy Economies Research Prize, an award recognizing innovative research linking women's health to their economic participation. Launched in 2019 by Chile and supported by Merck, this initiative promotes gender equity and sustainable economic growth.


The prize emphasizes research that generates sex- and gender-disaggregated data to inform policy and business strategies enhancing women's economic empowerment. Last year's winner, Dr. Wang Ai-Ling from China, demonstrated significant public health and economic impacts by preventing HIV, syphilis, and HBV transmission from mothers to children through integrated early interventions.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants:

    • Individuals or teams from any APEC member economy.

    • No requirement to be affiliated with academic institutions.


  • Research Requirements:

    • Must be evidence-based.

    • Should address at least one  of the following policy pillars from the Healthy Women, Healthy Economies Toolkit:

      1. Workplace health and safety

      2. Health awareness and access

      3. Sexual and reproductive health

      4. Gender-based violence

      5. Work-life balance


The winner will receive USD 20,000, and two runners-up will receive USD 5,000 each, with awards presented at the third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3).


Applications close on Friday, 9 May 2025.
